Christopher Salis- Journey Through Technology & Leadership
When I look back at my career, it feels like a story of growth and learning. It has been a path shaped by curiosity, hard work, and a deep love for technology. Earlier, joining SAP felt like a distant dream. Later, every step in leading global teams and driving innovation taught me something about people and progress.
I, Christopher Salis, have always been fascinated by how technology and business come together. The most exciting part is seeing how a single idea, when executed well, can change how companies operate. My path to SAP started with a passion for creating smarter systems, but it was the lessons learned along the way that defined who I am today.
The Beginning of My Career
After graduating from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, I, Christopher Salis, began my professional journey at Adecco Employment Services. It was one of the most valuable experiences of my life. As IT Procurement Manager, I handled operations across nearly 700 branches. I managed supplier selection, contract negotiations, and vendor relationships.
During that time, I discovered how much I enjoyed solving problems. I loved building strategies that made processes smoother and more efficient. Each project helped me understand procurement, teamwork, and the power of clear communication. Many of the changes I led transformed how Adecco managed its employment process.
After Adecco, I joined Gap Inc. as Manager of Strategic Sourcing. I developed strategies that improved performance and cost efficiency. Later, I moved to eBay, where I worked on procurement and strategic sourcing.
Moving Into Business Objects
In 2006, my career took a big step forward when I joined Business Objects, a company known for business intelligence and enterprise software. It was a perfect fit because it allowed me to blend technical knowledge with strategic leadership.
At Business Objects, I held several roles, including Senior Manager of Procurement, Senior Director of Global Go to Market, and Executive Director and Chief of Staff for the Office of the CEO. Working closely with executives taught me how global operations are shaped and guided. I helped manage mergers and partnerships, set up leadership priorities, and supported billion-dollar portfolios.
Growing with SAP
In 2010, I joined SAP as Vice President and Head of Global Sales for the Line of Business Solutions for Procurement. It was an exciting challenge that pushed me to think differently about leadership and innovation.
At SAP, I, Christopher Salis, learned that real innovation happens when technology meets human needs. I helped introduce a new SaaS business model that changed how we approached digital sales. I also helped reduce innovation timelines from twelve months to just ninety days.
Later, I became Global Vice President and General Manager, and then Global Vice President and Head of Portfolio for SAP’s Go to Market division. I helped turn zero-revenue products into forty-one-million-dollar success stories. My team achieved record sales growth and exceeded business targets.
One of my proudest achievements was helping design the strategy for SAP’s acquisition of Ariba in 2012. The deal was valued at four point three billion dollars and transformed SAP’s procurement solutions. After the merger, I led Ariba’s growth as part of the SAP. Together, we expanded SaaS revenue by seventy-five percent and redefined cloud procurement.
Becoming an Advisor and Consultant
After leaving SAP, I, Christopher Salis, wanted to share what I had learned. I became a managing partner at Catapuult Consulting, a company that helps organizations strengthen procurement and spend management strategies. We also work with startups to help them grow from early stages to more than one million dollars in annual revenue.
Giving Back Through Secure Our Schools
In 2022, I co-founded the Secure Our Schools Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on improving school safety through technology. Our goal is to protect K 12 students by using smart systems that prevent and respond to emergencies.
The foundation supports more than two hundred and fifty thousand students. We develop programs that focus on active shooter prevention, medical emergencies, and incident management. It feels deeply meaningful to use technology for the safety of children and communities.
What Keeps Me Going
Looking back, every chapter from Adecco to SAP, from startups to nonprofit work has taught me resilience and focus. Each role brought new challenges and lessons that shaped how I lead and think.
My goal has always been to use technology to make life easier and businesses stronger. Leadership, to me, means empowering others and encouraging new ideas. Every project is an opportunity to make a difference, and every collaboration is a new chance to grow.
What I Learned?
My story as Christopher Salis is about growth, learning, and purpose. Each step, no matter how small, shaped my journey. My time at SAP showed me how technology can change industries. My consulting and nonprofit work showed me how people can change communities.
If there is one message I would share, it is this: stay curious and never stop learning. The path may shift, but growth continues. Every idea, every risk, and every step forward can lead to something truly remarkable.
