Christopher Salis: My Journey in Enterprise Technology

My career has been shaped by curiosity, persistence, and a deep interest in how technology can transform the way businesses operate. I am Christopher Salis, and my professional journey has taken me through some of the world’s most influential companies.

Eventually leading me to leadership roles within the enterprise technology ecosystem. Looking back, what started as a passion for business systems gradually evolved into a career focused on strategy, innovation, and helping organizations grow.

Discovering My Interest in Enterprise Technology

Early in my career, I was fascinated by how businesses managed procurement, supply chains, and operational processes. I studied at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and after completing my degree, I began my professional journey at Adecco Employment Services. At the time, I did not realize how influential those early roles would be in shaping my understanding of global operations.

At Adecco, I held several procurement leadership roles, including IT Procurement Manager, Senior IT Buyer, and Strategic Sourcing Manager. My responsibilities involved managing procurement programs for global operations and supporting hundreds of branch locations.

Expanding My Experience in Global Companies

After my time at Adecco, I moved on to Gap Inc. where I worked in Strategic Sourcing. This role further exposed me to complex supply chain operations and corporate sourcing strategies. Shortly after, I joined eBay, where I managed procurement, operational excellence initiatives, and sourcing strategy.

Working at companies like eBay was both exciting and challenging. The environment required constant innovation, efficiency improvements, and strong cross-functional collaboration. These experiences broadened my perspective and prepared me for the next major phase of my career.

At that stage, I was still building my expertise, but my long-term ambition was clear. I wanted to work in enterprise software and business applications where technology directly drives organizational transformation.

Entering the World of Business Intelligence

In 2006, I joined Business Objects, a leading company in business intelligence and enterprise analytics. This move was a turning point for me. My roles included Senior Manager of Procurement and Strategic Sourcing, Senior Director of Global Go to Market Process and Product Management, and eventually Executive Director and Chief of Staff for the Office of the CEO.

Leadership Roles at SAP

Joining SAP was something I had never originally imagined. Early in my career, it seemed like a distant possibility. Yet when the opportunity came, it became one of the most defining chapters of my professional life.

I joined SAP as Vice President and Head of Global Sales for the Line of Business Solutions for Procurement. Later, I became Global Vice President and General Manager for the same division and eventually served as Global Vice President and Head of Portfolio for Go to Market.

As Christopher Salis, I was deeply involved in shaping new product strategies and commercial models. One of the initiatives I am particularly proud of was helping commercialize SAP’s digital business unit and introducing a new SaaS based business model that significantly accelerated product adoption.

Supporting Startups and Innovation

After many years working inside global enterprises, I became increasingly interested in helping emerging companies scale their ideas. Today, part of my work involves advising startups and consulting on business strategy.

Through my consulting work and ventures such as Catapuult Consulting, I support organizations in areas like spend management, procurement transformation, and revenue growth strategy. Helping startups move from early-stage development to meaningful revenue milestones is both challenging and rewarding.

In many ways, this role allows me to apply everything I learned throughout my corporate career.

As Christopher Salis, I believe that early-stage companies often succeed when they combine innovative ideas with disciplined operational execution. My goal is to help founders build strong strategic foundations so their businesses can grow sustainably.

Giving Back Through Community Initiatives

Beyond consulting and technology strategy, I also believe strongly in contributing to meaningful social initiatives. In 2022, I co-founded the Secure Our Schools Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving school safety through technology.

Through this initiative, Christopher Salis continues to work with communities, technology partners, and education leaders to develop practical safety solutions.

Looking Ahead

Technology continues to evolve rapidly, and the role of enterprise systems is becoming even more critical for organizations around the world. Reflecting on my journey from procurement management to enterprise software leadership, I feel fortunate to have contributed to organizations that drive innovation.

Today, whether advising startups, consulting with enterprises, or supporting community initiatives, my focus remains the same. As Christopher Salis, I am committed to helping organizations leverage technology, strategy, and leadership to create lasting impact.
